Past LIU Men’s Hockey Skates, 7-2

TROY, NY – Six different players have recorded multiple points, including the first two college goals of the sophomore year John beaton, who led the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s hockey team to a 7-2 victory over Long Island University on Friday night at Houston Field House. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-5-1 overall, while the Sharks drop to 2-7-2.

Beaton (Stittsville, ON / Youngstown Phantoms) started the score at 11:11 from first frame, firing a shot from the top of the left circle that defeated LIU graduate student goaltender Kris Carlson (Centerville, VA / Alaska-Anchorage ) bottom, glove side. Beaton’s first count assistants went to the elderly Jake johnson (Bloomington, MN / Cedar Rapids RoughRiders) and Jakub Lacka (Bratislava, Slovakia / Central Illinois Flying Aces).

RPI doubled their lead at 12:53, taking advantage of a gift from the Sharks in their defensive end. Graduate student Justin addamo (Aurieres, France / Robert Morris) stole the puck to the right circle and landed a shot in the upper left corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

The visitors moved closer to 2-1 on the first collegiate goal of rookie Isaiah Fox (Pierrefonds, PQ / Maine Nordiques). Driving the net from the left side, he slid the puck past the RPI graduate student goaltender Linden Marshall (Victoria, BC / Trail Smoke Eaters).

Rensselaer opened the game in the second period, scoring four times, including three on the power play to take a 6-1 lead.

Senior blueliner Kyle hallbauer (Howell, NJ / Lone Star Brahmas) kicked off the barrage with a top-zone male benefit tally – his first of the year. The goal, which came at 9:06, drew assists from a graduate student Anthony baxter (Oakville, ON / UMass Lowell) and senior Ottoville Leppanen (Espoo, Finland / Espoo Blues U20).

A second-year power play goal Lauri Sertti (Espoo, Finland / Amarillo Bulls) went 4-1 just 1:04 later. Johnson and junior Zach Doubinski (Highland Park, IL / Omaha Lancers) provided the setup for Sertti’s second count of the season.

Dubinsky then pocketed a tied tally at 5:13 p.m., bringing home a stream from a classmate. TJ Walsh (Shrewsbury, MA / Northeastern University) from the left circle. Junior Mason klee (Morrison, CO / Sioux Falls Stampede) had the second assist on Dubinky’s fifth goal in the last seven games.

Beaton then capped the blast of four goals with his second of the game – on the power play – at 7:30 pm. Scoring almost in the same spot as Sertti’s count 10 minutes earlier, Beaton managed a cross pass from the main captain Linden Ture (Great Falls, VA / Lone Star Brahmas) beat Carlson to a 6-1 advantage.

LIU first-year defenseman Spencer Cox (Powell, OH / Chippewa Steel) scored the first goal of the third period on a landing shot from the top of the right circle at 5:00 a.m. Graduate student Tyler Welsh (Whistler, BC / Yale) had a pass in the RPI zone and found a Cox behind for the scoring – his fourth of the season.

Leppanen then scored on a tap-in to the left side of the net, taking a assist from Linden at 15:39 and burying his third goal of the season. The game started with a left point shot from Baxter which deflected towards Linden on the right side of the net. Linden sent the puck through the mouth of the goal to Leppanen for the finish.

Marshall (6-4-1) finished with 12 saves, while Carlson (1-5-2) had 19, before giving way to senior Vincent Purpura (Lemont, IL / Boston University) early in the third period. . Purpura had six stops in his 20 minutes of work. RPI was 3 for 5 on the power play, while the Sharks were 0 for 4.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow night for the back half of the home and away series, which will be played at the Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, NY (8 p.m. ET).
