Tiffany & Co. is working with the U.S. Department of Labor to launch LVMH’s first-ever registered apprenticeship program in the U.S. as part of National Apprenticeship Week

NEW YORK, November 9, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — On the occasion of National Apprenticeship Week, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) today announces the official creation of the first Institut des Métiers d’Excellence (ME Institute) program in United States with Tiffany & Co., the iconic American luxury brand and world-renowned jeweler. The program will train the first cohort of the next generation of artisans to design and make jewelry, with trainees learning craftsmanship, design and retail excellence and know-how, named Métiers d’Excellence. , for which LVMH is known.

The apprenticeship application process began this summer and focused on recruiting artists from diverse and historically underrepresented communities to create opportunities and build an inclusive talent pool. After an in-depth review, LVMH and Tiffany & Co. selected and recently onboarded eight apprentices for the first cohort: Diana Olivarez, Elizabeth Shoobs, Elizabeth Mathan, Evan Martinez, Jiwon Hong, Isabelle DiasMaria-Emilia Proaño and Marianne Nieves de Banegas.

“The establishment of the Métiers d’Excellence program in the United States will expand our talent pool and advance our goal of promoting workforce diversity in the luxury industry.“, said Gena Smith, director of human resources for LVMH North America. “By offering an exceptional cohort of apprentices the opportunity to learn from experienced artisans, Métiers d’Excellence ensures the transmission of these skills to professionals at the start of their careers and teaches apprentices to respect the standards of excellence of long-standing LVMH.”

As the first Maison to launch the program in the United States, Tiffany & Co. will focus the program on jewelry design and manufacturing over two years, including rotations at Tiffany ateliers.

We are delighted to begin the Métiers d’Excellence program following our recently launched social impact platform, Tiffany Atrium“, said Marie BellaiGlobal Head of Human Resources, Tiffany & Co. “The Careers of Excellence initiative will allow us to strengthen the diversity and inclusiveness of the Tiffany & Co. workforce through one of our fundamental pillars of Tiffany Atrium: education. Our efforts will support the long-term growth and development of students, early career professionals, and educational institutions in the United States”

LVMH and Tiffany & Co. worked closely with New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) to register the program. Registered apprentices are industry vetted and approved, validated by the U.S. Department of Labor or a state learning agency, and provide participants with a nationally recognized portable credential. Additionally, these programs provide an essential pathway for individuals to access quality career opportunities through hands-on learning and direct work experience.

This partnership represents the first apprenticeship program offered in the luxury industry for the Department as part of a broader list of competency-based apprenticeship programs. To celebrate this major milestone, NYSDOL is officially kicking off National Apprenticeship Week with a signing ceremony featuring LVMH, Tiffany & Co. and the first cohort apprentices.

National Learning Week represents an opportunity to shine a light on the successes and value of recorded learning in rebuilding the economy, advancing racial and gender equity, and supporting underserved communities.

“Recorded apprenticeship continues to put New Yorkers on the path to great, in-demand careers while providing employers with a skilled workforce,” said Roberta Redon, New York State Commissioner of the Ministry of Labour. “I thank LVMH and Tiffany & Co. for following this model, and I encourage other companies to contact us if they want to know how recorded learnings can help them meet their business needs.”

The launch of the Métiers d’Excellence program in the United States with Tiffany & Co. is the first of LVMH’s Métiers d’Excellence initiative in the United States, with several other Houses planning to join in 2023.

Since its creation in France in 2014, more than 1,400 students took part in the Métiers d’Excellence program in seven countries. The success rate is tremendous, since 78% of apprentices continue their studies or enter professions where they apply the skills acquired, many of them in the LVMH Maisons or with external partners.
