Jio Institute Appoints Guruswami Ravichandran as Provost

The Jio Institute on Monday announced the appointment of Guruswami Ravichandran of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) as provost to further strengthen its academic leadership.

Ravichandran will join the Jio Institute as founding provost and professor of engineering on July 1, 2022, the institute said in a statement.

Ravichandran holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and MS in Engineering, both from Brown University, USA and a BE (Honours) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College (NIT), Trichy.

He served as the Otis Booth Leadership Chair in Caltech’s Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences from 2015 to 2021. He also served as Director of Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at the California Institute of Technology (GALCIT) from 2009 to 2015.

He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, foreign member of Academia Europaea, among others. He has received the Warner T. Koiter Medal, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the William M. Murray Lecture Award, the Society for Experimental Mechanics, the Chevalier de l’ordre des Palmes Academiques, the French Republic, among many others. awards and recognitions for his contribution to research and teaching, the statement added.

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Dr. Ravichandran to the Jio Institute and Reliance family.
